Midtown Kava Lounge made its debut in August 2018 in Tallahassee, Florida, earning the distinction of being the city's second-oldest Kava bar. MKL’s journey has been marked by resilience and growth, including a significant transformation when leadership shifted in 2020, resulting in an overhaul of the entire bar. Billy Rizzardi, the new proprietor of the bar, aimed to establish a compassionate community that embraces everyone while also setting it apart from MKL's previous reputation under different ownership. Hailing from Buffalo, New York, Billy Rizzardi aspired to craft a locale reminiscent of those he admired in his hometown, fostering genuine connections and in-person gatherings.
Alongside the connections made within the kava community, Midtown Kava Lounge has made its mission to help the community outside the kava community as well. In addition to contributing to various charities and participating in local events, Midtown Kava Lounge is recognized for supporting neighboring local businesses and helping their teams grow in prosperity. The MKL community is specifically recognized for the diverse and distinct talents and professions of its members, resulting in a more mature clientele within the Tallahassee kava community. This makes Midtown Kava Lounge the ideal atmosphere for networking or hanging out with like-minded individuals.
Alongside the members of the community, Midtown Kava Lounge wouldn’t be the respectful, outstanding place it is today without its employees, some of whom have been there since the beginning making the place come to life every day of the year. In fact, MKL just celebrated its 5th anniversary. Every member and employee went the extra mile in gathering decorations, bringing forth a vibrant and festive ambiance to mark this significant milestone. On the day of the event, Rizzardi stated, “Regardless of my presence, everyone helps out to ensure that the show goes on. It’s evident that this kava bar is just as special to each of them as it is to me.”
With a strong staff of highly motivated individuals ready to learn and work, Midtown Kava Lounge has a bright future ahead. MKL aspires to sustain community growth, leave a positive impact, and potentially extend its reach by establishing kava bars in other communities.
